Welcome to the Fetternear Hall website!
About
Fetternear Hall is registered Scottish Charity (Number SC009387).
Before the Hall was built, the communities of Burnhervie, Blairdaff and Fetternear met at Fetternear School. There they would meet regularly for their Bowling, SWRI as well as their regular dances. A Committee was formed somewhere around 1946 to commence fundraising towards a new Hall.

Back Row: Mr C Wilkie, Mr D Allan, Mr S Sandison, Mr H Lawie,
Middle Row: Mrs Robertson, Mr G Walker, Mr J Smith, Mrs C Wilkie, Mr D Sutherland, Mrs D Allan, Mr R Duncan
Front Row: Mrs D Sutherland, Miss M Duncan, Mrs Duncan, Mrs Lumsden
The fundraising was hard work and all sorts of activities took place, including a Garden Fete held at Fetternear House, the home of Miss Chetwynd and Miss Berry the then owners of Fetternear Estate.

A building was sourced at Pitlochry where it had been used by forestry workers as their school/church/community hall but now no longer required. Local farmers gathered sand and stones from the banks of the river Don in Fetternear Estate and, after a lot of hard work, the Hall was eventually opened on the 27th August 1960.

Major and Mrs Gordon officially opened the hall,

People came from all over the district and filled the Hall on the Saturday afternoon.

While many changes have taken place inside the Hall, apart from different windows, the ouside still looks the same as it did in 1960..

In 1994 the Hall had a major upgrade. Toilets were upgraded, double doors between the 2 halls installed, disabled entrance and disabled toilet were also installed. Although the types of groups changed, the Hall continued to be a valuable and popular asset to the area.
In 2010 the Hall reached the age of 50. A very successful dance was held to celebrate the occasion.

Today, 2020, the Hall has just received another upgrade. Unfortunately the roof to the small hall and kitchen areas had been leaking so another major fundraise was started. Now there is a lovely modern user friendly kitchen, a cosy small hall area complete with up-to-date air source heating system.

The original Hall cost £5,000, a lot of money back in the early 50s. The upgrade in 1994 cost £32,000, in 2020 the roof repairs and upgrade of small hall and kitchen cost £50,000.
